Some of the Olympus OMD mirrorless cameras are having a problem with the internal strap screws loosening up and or falling out. Once the screws are loose they can move around internally in the camera causing damage to any number of camera systems.
Olympus is a great manufacturer and they have really helped develop and revolutionize the mirrorless camera market.
The image quality is superb and they are compact and easy to use. However no camera is perfect and we have found that the strap lugs can come loose and even fall off. This presents some potential issues.
- If your strap fails while hanging around your neck you risk dropping and damaging the camera and attached lens. This type of damage is not covered by the manufacturer warranty.
- If/when the strap lug falls off the internal securing screws can fall inside the camera and potentially short out and damage various electronic components.
We have a remedy for this issue which consists of disassembling the camera, tightening the strap lugs, and securing them with thread lock to ensure that the screws do not back out. After this servicing the problem should never reoccur.
After we complete the repair we clean the camera sensor and provide a photo of the imaging sensor before and after cleaning. We will also update the cameras’ firmware and test all functions. The cost for this servicing is $150.
