Introduction to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Photoshop has long been the industry standard for anyone working with digital photographs. With the comprehensive toolsent in Photoshop it is possible to address just about any digitial imaging issue. However, Photoshop CS2’s massive set of tools can be hard to understand and even more difficult to manage. Photographers new to Photoshop often have difficulty knowing which tools to use and what order to use them in. That’s why Adobe created the newly released Photoshop Lightroom.

Lightroom is a workflow package that allows photographers to organize, edit, and output their images in an intuitive and efficient manner. One of the key features is that all image editing is non-destructive weather it’s done to RAW or JPG files. That means that any image adjustments that are done in Lightroom can be easily undone at a later date. What’s even more exciting is that the adjustments made to one image can be quickly applied to other images. If you need to adjust several similar images, you can fix one and then share it’s settings with the rest of the images.

With features like this Lightroom is already changing the way photographers work. This class is your chance to get in on the ground floor with this amazing software and start using it right away.

There are five production modules in lightroom: Library, Develop, Slideshow, Print, and Web. This class will focus on the Library and Develop modules - the heart of the Lightroom software. We will briefly take a look at the other three modules.

Topics to be covered:

  • Asset Management - Getting Organized
  • Importing and uploading Files
  • The lightroom landscape
  • Working with Keywords and Metadata
  • Advanced sorting with labels and stars
  • The image editing workflow
  • Adjusting tone and contrast
  • Black and white conversions
  • Cropping and sizing
  • Basic retouching and tools
  • Sharing image adjustments and settings
  • Saving presets
  • Exporting files for the lab
  • and more..
